STERLING REAL ESTATE IN ATLANTA AND CURB APPEAL

Posted by Matthew Biggers on Friday, November 9th, 2018 at 2:02pm.

In the real estate business, curb appeal is known as the frosting on the cake and it refers to the overall appearance of a property from the street. People who are shopping for a new home will often drive by a property that is for sale and inspect it before making a decision to take a look at the inside or not.

This means that if your home doesn’t look desirable from the outside, you will have a difficult time getting anybody to take a look at the inside. Yes, curb appeal is that important. So if you are considering petting your home n the market, it is in your best interest to make your home as appealing as possible on the outside. It doesn’t matter how awesome the interior of your home is, nobody is interested in looking at it if you don’t have curb appeal.

Sterling Real Estate Company in Atlanta offers these tips on curb appeal.

Curb Appeal Starts Online

Nearly 90 percent of homebuyers begin the process of buying a house on the internet. So you better have some pretty fabulous pictures of your home if you want them knocking at your front door eager to see the place.

Take a look at the picture you take from a buyer’s perspective. For example, if you see a bike in the driveway in the picture of the front of the house, that really doesn’t show your home at its best.

Think Like a Buyer and Act Like A Buyer

Take a walk around the outside of your home with a notepad, pencil and critical eye. Takes of what looks good and what doesn’t look so good. Jot down the things that need to be fixed, like the broken railing on the stairs to the deck. When you take this tour of the outside of your house, you will no doubt notice things you haven’t before is see things for what they really are. For example, it is not normal that you have had a Frisbee on your roof for the better part of three years.

Look High And Look Low

You are sure to take a look at your yard and garden for any improvements or problems that need to be dealt with, but many of you won’t even bother to take a look at the roof. Your roof is important to curb appeal. Even if your roof is in good condition, it could probably still use a good cleaning. And your gutters should sparkle as well.

Happy Numbers

If your house numbers are dirty or otherwise hard to see from the street, replacing them makes perfect sense. Consider the style and color of your home and go with a set of numbers that fits. A traditional or modern set of numbers, depending on the style of your house, creates harmony and adds great curb appeal.

Ask A Friend Or A Neighbor

Just as you grow noseblind to the smells in your home, you get used to defects on your house and in your yard. What you need is a fresh set or two of eyes to see what needs to be fixed or changed on your house.

A neighbor might come clean and let you know just how terrible that crooked gutter looks. Which is funny because you hadn’t noticed it until it was pointed out.

Rent A Pressure Washer

Plan on renting a pressure washer and using it for the better part of the day washing away oil stains and dirt in the driveway and grime on your deck and front porch. We don’t have to look to know that these places need to be cleaned.

Add Some Color

Unless it is the dead of winter, some types for plants and flowers should always be in bloom in your yard or on your front porch. If you don’t have a formal flower garden, spruce up the place with some window boxes full of colorful flowers.

Light It Up

Give your walkway a new look with solar light fixtures that are both affordable and easy to install. Place them close to some of the better attributes of your lawn.
